Frequently asked Questions

Where's the departure location? Inspiration Point, Balboa Park, San Diego. This is near the I-5 & 163 intersection just north of downtown San Diego.

What time do I have to be there? We request that you arrive at 6:30 AM. Complementary Coffee, juice, muffins & fruit will be served during check-in. Departure time is 8:00 AM sharp.

What kind of vehicle will I be traveling in? We use chartered US motor coach buses with reclining seats, and rest rooms, most have video players. Push the seat back and relax.

How is my bike transported? Bikes are carefully loaded in racks on flat bed trucks that follow each bus. Each bike is individually secured by our trained staff to prevent contact with other bikes. If your bike cost you a gazillon !!**!! dollars and you absolutely/positively want to make sure it doesn't touch another foreign object, bring a blanket to cover it. Due to our bike rack design; you will be asked to remove your front wheel, and place it in the luggage bay of the bus.

Where are we meeting after the ride? Our compound in Ensenada is close to both the post ride Fiesta and downtown shopping district. Clean, hot showers are available close by for $3.00. You will receive a map and directions at the morning check-in.

We plan on staying in a hotel/motel while we're in San Diego. Do you have any information on area lodging? The morning pick-up is about 1/2 mile north of downtown San Diego, in the I-5 corridor. Most of the major chains have hotels in this area. If you're having trouble finding a room call our office for more info. Book early, this is a busy weekend.

Am I "locked" into the departure time that I selected at registration? "Technically" Yes. But there is a lot of swapping and trading going on between passengers at the finish line compound in Ensenada. Our staff will try to help you with any changes that you might want.

How long does it take to get back to San Diego? The special "bus only" line at the border, reduces wait time by about half. But the return trip it still takes approx. 3 hours. Sit back and enjoy the video, at least you're not driving through the bumper to bumper traffic!

What is your cancellation policy? Full refund prior to 5PM, April 12thth. Full refund minus $15 per person processing fee or full credit for next ride prior to 5PM April 16. No refund or credit after April 16. No refunds or credit for no-shows. This ride is scheduled "rain or shine".

May I bring a friend who's not riding in the race? Yes. Many people do this. Non-bike riding passengers stay on the bus after the drop off in Rosarito Beach and go directly to the pick-up area at the finish line. This location is an easy two block walk to Ensenada's shopping district. The shuttle fee is the same price.

I'm flying in for the ride and don't want to ship my bike. Are there rental bikes available? Yes. We have an arrangement with a local rental shop. We'll pick-up & return your rental bike for no extra charge. Call them directly at: Pennyfarthing's Bike Shop (619) 233-7696. A nice used road bike will cost $25 per day. You MUST tell them that you are traveling with Outback Adventures so we can make arrangments for pick-up.

Are there any other payment options? Yes, We also accept PayPal, personal checks and USPS money orders if received prior to September 25th. It's important that you call first and make a phone reservation if you choose this method. For PayPal, send payment as "services" to kayaken@juno.com For all non-website bookings, list the names of all people in reservation and desired return time from Ensenada. p>
